Disco and Dancing Boost Morale

It is no surprise that the industry is in a pretty glum mood, given cuts across the board. While most might complain, the strategic few thrive. And they do that starting with a great attitude.

That is why you should enjoy this video. Chicago-based NuCare Management -- which operates about 15 long-term care facilities in Illinois and Arizona -- hatched a plan to choreograph and film a video set to the Gloria Gaynor classic "I Will Survive" at a staff retreat. The team drew inspiration from another viral video, The Pink Glove Dance, which raised awareness for breast cancer.

NuCare provided the props and colorful T-shirts for attendees, who had no idea they would be filming a music video when they signed up for the retreat. A NuCare marketing staffer who moonlights as a Chicago Bulls cheerleader choreographed the dance routine, which was taught and filmed in less than two hours.

We should start the new year with not just a survive mentality but a thrive mentality. Organizations that have a thrive mentality will help recruit and retain the best staff and that can be a market differentiator.

I think we need a song.
