An Interest in Pinterest Heres a Way for All of Us to Get Started

I am excited to have a Pinterest account and thought we could use it for the good of the industry. I am creating a board - Happy Elders. The idea behind Pinterest is to share visually interesting things. So healthcare providers could for example share healthy recipes (emphasis on photos) or rehab exercises. If people like what they see they can share it with others and "repin" what they see as well. Pinterest is getting more traffic than You Tube, Linked In and Google+!

This idea is simple. People have preconceptions of elders in whatever the setting - nursing homes, assisted living, adult day - you name it. Let's show people the real beauty and quality of life you provide to them.

It's about sharing photos of your elders that dispel myths about aging and perhaps can teach others how to live a quality of life.

So how do we do this?

You can do one of three things:

  1. Send a photo to me in an email to assistedliving.guide@about.com. Or use the contact button on the site. The photo must be accompanied by a photo consent release that you typically use in your setting.
  2. Respond to a forum I set up and attach a photo. Same stipulation. Also send a completed photo consent release to the email noted above.
  3. Point me to a photo(s) by responding in the forum message or by email and sharing the link where I can find it.

In your own interest and because it is just simpler, it is best that the photo is already on your site or blog because people will have the opportunity to check you out by clicking on the photo and being redirected to your web site. And we don't have to hassle over releases.

You must be invited to Pinterest to participate. You can request that at the site or by giving me your email, like when you send a photo or release, and I can then send you an invite.

I think this could be fun.
